WHAT AGES DO WE SERVE?

18 and above. For children 5-17, they must be accompanied by their parents.

All of us have had the experience of wandering through a lush garden or a timeless desert, walking by a river or an ocean, or climbing a mountain and finding ourselves simultaneously calmed and reinvigorated, engaged in mind, refreshed in body and spirit. The importance of these physiological states on individual and community health is fundamental and wide-ranging.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Aromatherapy is a centuries-old practice of applying essential oils (plant extracts) for therapeutic benefit. Essential oils can positively affect the part of the brain that deals with emotions, as well as stress responses.

Aromatherapy may be recommended to or explored by a client in conjunction with Psychotherapy. When aromatherapy is integrated into the treatment plan, a common overall goal is to help manage stress responses and allow the client come into a state of wellbeing that allows them to better dispositioned to seek support through increased openness and a rested or relaxed state.

Beyond the therapy sessions, aromatherapy tools such as essential oil inhalers or customized blends can help promote the client’s sense of balanced or positive mood.

Aromatherapists are certified international practitioners educated and trained in the use of essential oils as a holistic healing modality. At Magis, aromatherapists are members of the Alliance of International Aromatherapists, complying with their code of ethics and standards of practice.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

Your therapist at Magis may refer you to aromatherapy if they assess that it will be beneficial to you as part of your treatment plan. This direct referral is essential to availing of the aromatherapy service, as it ensures that there is adequate mental health support when the therapeutic practice of essential oils is introduced to you, which may affect your emotional state.

In addition to the direct referral, an initial aromatherapy consultation will help the aromatherapist become more familiar with you as a client. In this consultation, the aromatherapist will review your medical history, your current emotional state, ask about your aroma preferences, explore with you how you might wish to shift your emotions and what kind of aromatherapy tools you are interested in.

Depending on which type of aromatherapy you choose or is recommended to you, you can expect an aromatherapist to:

  • Discuss your wellness goals

  • Discuss your emotional state and what you desire to feel (e.g. more calm, more engerized)

  • Create a customized essential oil blend suited to your concerns and goals

  • Guide you in using the aromatherapy tools on your own

  • Conduct a patch test with diluted essential oils, for aromatherapy tools that are used topically

  • Facilitate a meditation with essential oils
