PSYCHOTHERAPY

Beginning Therapy

If you are unsure of how to begin with counseling and/or psychotherapy, MAGIS can help you begin your journey through an intake session. This intake session with a mental health clinician (either a psychotherapist or psychologist) can help you identify your goals in healing, and guide you towards a recommended plan for treatment. In some cases, psychological assessments may also be recommended.

Client Journey

  1. Intake session (may include an interview with client’s parents, if client is below 18) that includes client history, goal-setting, and treatment planning.
  2. Regular 60-min sessions scheduled with regular intervals, according to clinician’s recommendation

What do we do?

Mental health clinicians (Psychotherapists and psychologists) help individuals cope with emotional challenges with a range of issues including but not limited to:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Suicidality
  • Trauma
  • Stress
  • Other mood and personality disorders

We also support individuals through a process of working through psychosocial concerns such as building self-esteem and better relationships, growing in self-awareness and learning the basics of self-care for overall wellbeing.

How do we do it?

Medium to long-term therapy through culturally-relevant, client-appropriate and safe therapeutic approaches, in collaboration with psychiatrists for pharmacotherapy where applicable.

A range of approaches are employed by the team, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and the expressive arts therapies (art, dance and music). When the expressive arts is used in the psychotherapist’s process, an experience is facilitated to encourage creative expression and creative work is explored in a safe, responsible manner. All our psychotherapists and psychologists also offer counseling as a short-term intervention that can help individuals deal with specific personal issues, challenges in daily living, or life transitions. Grounded upon humanistic traditions, psychological techniques, and the expressive arts philosophy, counseling aims to support personal and interpersonal functioning across the lifespan.
