We are always grateful for the opportunity to serve communities across Metro Manila, but we also love welcoming them to our Center. Sometimes, it takes a change of scenery to rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit. Today, this group EXPLORED. From drawing to movement, we explored different ways to perceive and describe what we see, and to attune to each other by co-creating art and responding to each other's art. . Expressive Arts psychosocial programs are often a wonderful complement to counseling and psychotherapy, especially for centers with groups who are growing and healing together. It helps to deepen the impact in individual sessions through facilitated group activities. . #expressiveartsph #exaphilippines

Some of our best ideas can come from play. Some of the most exciting learning opportunities are in environments and situations of play. What if some of our greatest healing came from play, too? This November 30 - December 1, come join us with an open mind and redefine what you know about play through the expressive arts. 'Duyan: cradling diversity through the expressive arts', a 2-day workshop about the expressive arts, is still open for registration. - 📷: Do you recognize the game? Why are the expressive arts helpful for mental health? Because you need the chance to celebrate all wins, big and small. Sometimes, the win is a completed masterpiece of a story. Sometimes, the win is the one sentence that starts one. . Practising the creative process makes us more naturally responsive to the aesthetics around us, attuned to beauty and honesty in expression. Bilateral drawing can help regulate stress by encouraging cross-hemisphere activity. When both sides of the body are involved in a sensory-based process, such as drawing and moving, it reminds us of balance, spontaniety, natural rhythm, and the connection between the body and the mind. "I see the expressive arts help release painful experiences, emotions, the effects of trauma, and start the healing process. "The Philippines has come a long way since 1990, when I first began psychosocial care and debriefing was the only intervention available to disaster survivors. "Today, integrating the use of the expressive arts in helping trauma victims is now being incorporated into the basic training we give to psychosocial care providers. We see the expressive arts in action when we see psychosocial care providers more empowered to give specialized mental health and psychosocial care through the expressive arts." Thelma Singson Barrera has been in disaster response and mental health & psychosocial support practice since the 90s, and she has seen the evolution of how the country responds to trauma. Today, after 40 years in service, she is inspired by how the expressive arts is changing the way Filipinos receive support, and give support. “We need to capacitate and develop more practitioners,” Barrera says, “with the goal of fostering post-traumatic growth and eventual healing; transforming trauma victims to become VICTORS.” Nurse Thelma will be at Duyan: cradling diversity through the expressive arts 🌿 #EXAPHDuyan #expressiveartsph #exaphilippines
